I'm updating this in August 2020. It's such a sad thought that it will be a while until we get to travel the world again as many countries have closed down borders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Doesn't it make you realize how much you have taken your freedom to travel for granted?

If you're thinking about traveling solo, here are the best destinations for solo travelers. These places are very convenient and friendly for tourists. Check them out!

Solo traveling is great. You can travel at your own pace, spend as much time as you want, and visit anywhere you want.  Some places are friendlier for solo travelers than others. When you travel alone, your safety is very important, especially if you're a female solo traveler. So please exercise caution and stay safe!

Thailand

Thailand is also known as the Land of Smiles, and it should be on top of solo travels' list! It's affordable, especially if you're coming in from Europe or America. You can buy a meal for just 1-2 dollars! So, you can comfortably live here for a while on a minimal budget.

The country also offers wide ranges of lifestyle suited for everyone. From staying on budget at a hostel to living a 5-star hotel lifestyle. From having delicious local street food to dining on the rooftop savoring the view of the city. Whether you're a college student taking a gap year, solo traveler, retiree, yoga junkie (like I am!) or traveling with friends, Thailand has it all for you!

Not to mention the variety of experiences you can have here: city, nightlife, beaches, mountains, waterfalls, yoga retreats... the options are just endless.

London, UK

I simply love London! I have lived in London for two years - alone. No family there. Just me working. And I absolutely fell in love with the country. So, I'd definitely urge anyone considering solo traveling to keep London as an option because it's just amazing.

I
n fact, I love everywhere in the UK. The infrastructure and transportation in the UK are great, so you can easily travel around the country by train. I have traveled to all major cities in the UK and there was no where that did not steal my heart.

The city is full of history, stories, and cultures. And yet, it's modern and at the forefront of technological advances. It offers such a charming blend of the taste of history and the glimpse of the future. It's a unique experience that I cannot recommend enough.

There are lots of things you can do in London. You'll never get bored even if you travel solo! Spend a day at London's best parks.  Learn about the history and Henry VIII at the tower of London, and ending the day with dinner at one of the fabulous restaurants in Covent Garden. Or shopping at Oxford Circus. Whatever you want to do, London will have it for you.

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Amsterdam is very friendly for solo travelers. The transportation is very well-organized and you can travel to most places by trams. The city is full of cultures and history. If you visit around May, there are tulips everywhere! And for that alone was worth the trip to Amsterdam!

There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the city. You can easily walk around and enjoy the view which is incredibly beautiful anywhere you go. Occasionally you can smell marijuana from a coffee shop nearby (it's not illegal there!).

If you feel like learning about history, the Ann Frank museum is there for you. There is so much to enjoy in Amsterdam. You'll never run out of things to do!

Munich, Germany

This is another destination perfect for all solo travelers It's safe. It's convenient. It's full of cultures and beautiful nature, It's a hub to the BMW museum which is famous for being the largest science and technology museum in the world!

The German food is incredible. The wurst and the beer alone are worth the trip to be here! Oktoberfest is the famous world event where people can come here to drink beer all day. And German beer is amazing! Even if you don't want to drink, there's a non-alcoholic version of beer that tastes just as amazing!

If you're from Asia, shopping in Germany is great! You can buy household names for super cheap. Go to DM store and pick up great quality face masks, lotion, shampoo, everything here was half the price of what you'd get in your country!

Munich is also a great hub if you want to explore Austria. Salzburg is totally doable as a one-day trip from Munich. Or you can take a day trip to the breathtaking Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps!

Paris, France

It's Paris! The most romantic city in the world. But I'd argue that it's a great place for solo travelers as well.

The city is very dreamy. You're going to be hypnotized by the Eiffel Tower and its grandeur. The restaurants offer authentic delicious French food that we all dream of. Not to mention the French coffee and pastry and the sweet smell of the bread. It's all to die for!

However, unlike other cities in Europe, Paris has a slightly rough edge to it. The cities are not as "polished". And there are dark and sketchy corners in the street. It's quite infamous for pick-pocketing. For me, I personally find traveling alone safer than in a group as you don't appear to be another tourist where they can easily target!

My advice to you is to always appear to know where you're going (even if you don't) and avoid looking like a confused tourist.

There you go! These are my tips and recommendations on where to travel solo. Please share it if you find it helpful.
